Big Learning® is proud to have an advisory board populated by leaders in progressive education. These advisors provide strategic advice on curriculum development, collaboration, management, and fund raising.
Lawrence Agulnick is Executive Vice President at TBED21, a non-profit that helps cities implement sysergistic technology-based development and education initiatives. Previously, he was the Chief of Staff at the Science Center in Philadelphia, and was Chief Operating Officer at Cangen Biotechnologies.
Dr. Neal Brown is the Head of School at Green Acres School in Rockville, Maryland. Green Acres, founded in 1934, is the Washington, DC area's leading progressive school.
Jennifer Knudsen is a senior mathematics educator at the Center for Technology and Learning at SRI, International, an active volunteer at her daughter's San Francisco elementary school, and, of course, a parent. At SRI, Knudsen designs programs and materials for students and teachers, helping a broad range of students learn high-level mathematics even at the middle-school level. She directs a research project funded by the National Science Foundation, developing and testing new professional development techniques for teachers. She was also a founding Board member of Big Learning. Her education includes a B.A. from the Evergreen State College and graduate studies at Stanford University and Columbia Teachers' College.
Dr. Karl Reid is a national leader in minority science and technology education. He is currently the Senior Vice President of Academic Programs and Strategic Initiatives at the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Prior to that, he was Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education and Assistant to the Chancellor for Diversity and Director of the Office of Minority Education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At MIT, he directed the Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science (MITES) Program, a nationally-recognized residential summer program for talented high school seniors, and he founded the Saturday Engineering Enrichment and Discovery (SEED) Academy, and the Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Program, both year-round academic and mentoring programs for local high school and middle school students. Dr. Reid holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from MIT, and a Doctorate of Education from Harvard.
