Self-Portrait Still Life

How can kids take a self-portrait photograph, especially if their camera has no timer? Wendy Ewald has many ideas, which she describes in her magnificent book, I Wanna Take Me a Picture.

My favorite is the self-portrait still life. Kids arrange objects that represent who they are and take the photo. Maybe a sports uniform, a favorite book, and a beloved stuffed animal. Some kids include photos of themselves or their families in the scene. Your child may even want to put themselves in the scene and have someone else snap the photo.

A self-portrait still life makes a great gift, especially if accompanied with a written explanation of the objects in the photo.
